Standard 1-2 Night Backpacking List

In preparation for camping with Boy Scout Troops. This list applies to those attending up to 2 nights of fair weather (standard conditions) backpacking.

( ) Backpack - that fits and is good repair
( ) Sleeping bag in a garbage bag lined stuff sack.
( ) Sleeping pad
( ) tent
    -- you should split up among tent mates: 
    ( ) poles
    ( ) stakes
    ( ) ground cloth

Clothing List, (this includes items being worn)
*packed clothing should all be in ziploc bags *
( ) sturdy worn-in hiking boots
( ) spare laces for hiking boots 
( ) three pair socks (with liners)
( ) three pair underwear
( ) pants (synthetic works best - light weight and dries quickly if it gets wet)
( ) two shirts - synthetic are best - long     
     sleeve protects against the sun and     dehydration
( ) camp shoes or old tennis shoes or water shoes
    -- NO open toed shoes--
( ) bandana -- optional. good also for use as pot holder etc.
( ) rains gear - lightweight, for high adventure activites like mountain-hikes rain-pants and rain-jacket are a must, GoreTex etc preferable.
( ) fleece jacket or vest
( ) Sun hat - will be worn
( ) towel (small 1 square foot - no larger)

Ten Essentials + 2 (some are also listed elsewhere)
( ) pocketknife 
( ) personal first aid kit 
( ) rain gear
( ) extra clothing 
( ) flashlight 
( ) sun protection
( ) water bottle/camelback 
( ) trail food 
( ) whistle
( ) matches & fire starter
( ) map & compass
( ) $1.00 and 1 Euro in quarters and dimes

Cooking/eating
( ) 2 one-gal. ziploc bags for trash
( ) snacks for hike/energy bars etc. (4 bars/day)
( ) any spices that YOU like 

the following three items should be in a mesh bag:
( ) eating utensils - lexan or strong plastic or fancy: titanium
( ) bowl (bowl from mess kit works ) lexan or strong plastic
( ) cup/mug

Patrol Gear to be split up among Patrol Members
( ) stove or stoves
( ) fuel bottles 
( ) cooking pans/lids 
( ) pot holder
( ) dish cleaning items
( ) Camp Suds or (biodegradable soap)
( ) Scrub pad/sponge (1/2 sponge will do)
( ) food by grubmaster - meals will be repacked at meeting or prior

Misc.
( ) matches, waterproof in container
( ) compass
( ) pen & paper
( ) pocket knife
( ) whistle
( ) flashlight & extra batteries (AA is best)
( ) sun screen - small bottle - 4 oz. should do.
( ) sun glasses if you wear them - a good idea
( ) ziploc with powdered Gatorade / other energy drink small amount - enough to make 1/2 gal)
( ) water bottle (s) or Camelback whichever works best for you
( ) water for cooking
( ) toilet kit - 
( ) toothbrush & tooth paste (sample size), 
( ) small 1.5 oz bottle of hand sanitizer 
( ) comb
( ) small amount of toilet paper 
    (1/4 roll - rolled up tight)
( ) two 15 ft. pieces of parachute cord or 
     small rope
